We began this 3rd day in Dahshur, which is south of the area known as Saqqara. The area running from Giza to Dahshur has been used as necropolis by the inhabitants of Memphis at different times, and it has been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979.

In Dahshur we visited the Bent and Red Pyramids, two of the oldest, largest, and best preserved pyramids in Egypt. Then we traveled to Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt, where we had a chance to look at several antiquities. Following a visit to a museum there, we went to Saqqara (Sakkara), one of the richest archaeological sites in Egypt. It is most famous for the Step Pyramid of King Djoser, the world's first major stone structure, built in the 27th century B.C., and the Pyramid of Teti.
